Australia Global Talent Visa Program Eligibility Requirements

Australian Global Talent Visa program is introduced under the Global Businesses and Talent Attraction Taskforce to attract high-value businesses and highly skilled professionals to Australia. The administration has identified ten future-focused sectors to select the experienced professionals who will drive innovation, transfer skills, and the country's economy. The selected applicants can work and live permanently with the Australia PR Visa.

For the year 2020-2021, the administration allowed 15,000 applications under the program, which significantly increased from the 5000 applications allocated last year.

 

What is the Global Talent Independent (GTI) Program?

The purpose of the GTI program is to attract talented migrants at the top of particular critical industries to Australia. It runs on top of an existing visa - the Global Talent (Subclass 858) visa (discussed further below).

The GTI program entails the Department embarking on a more proactive role by employing "Global Talent Officers" (GTO) in important international locations to invite targeted candidates to apply for an Australian visa. GTOs will collaborate with nations in their respective regions and participate in significant events/expos to promote this initiative.

To be invited to apply for this visa, those interested in this program must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Department of Home Affairs (Department). A successful applicant would be provided with a unique identity and invited to apply for a Global Talent visa. Their visa application would be processed expeditiously (around 3 months). In order that:

• 2019/20 migration program year - 5,000 spots were available;
• During the 2020/21 migration program year, 15,000 spots were allocated;
• During the 2021/22 migration program year, 15,000 spots were offered;
• There will be 5,000 spots during the 2022/23 migration program year (reduced further down from 8,448).

Particularly, the Department intends to target persons with profiles pertinent to the 10 sectors listed in Directive 89.

The Department also seeks to target select student cohorts with internationally recognized and industry-relevant research, especially those who have recently (within the last three years) finished their PhD.

• Priority processing signifies that these Global Talent visas have the highest priority of all Australian immigration programs. The process is streamlined and incredibly efficient, with visas granted in as little as one month after application submission.
• This visa is for independent applicants, does not require sponsorship by an employer, and is not based on a points system.
• The visa is given without restrictions or limits for employment.
• A permanent resident is eligible to apply for Australian citizenship.

 

What are the eligibility requirements under Australia Global Talent Visa?

• Applicants must prove they are internationally recognized with evidence of outstanding achievements such as senior roles, patents, professional awards, and international publications and memberships.
• Must have the ability to attract an annual salary of minimum of AUD 158,600 (INR 86.9 Lac) according to the Fair Work High Income
• Must be exceptional in their field of expertise and provide evidence that they would be an asset to Australia
• Attain nomination as a global talent from a recognized organization or individual in Australia in the same field as the applicant
• Must have no difficulty in getting employment in Australia or becoming established in their field
• Ph.D. graduates and Ph.D. students can also apply to demonstrate their exceptional talent and international recognition in a target sector.

 

How to apply for Australia Global Talent Visa?

To apply the following stages that you need to follow:

First Stage – Get nominated by an eligible Individual or organization in Australia

• As a part of the application process, candidates must acquire nominations from the individual or an organization with a national reputation.
• The nominating individual or organization will endorse your achievements and skills.

Second Stage – Expression of Interest

• Submit an expression of interest using Global Talent Contact Form
• If you meet the program requirements, you will receive the unique Invitation reference identifier and Invitation code

Third Stage – Apply for the Visa

• After receiving the Invitation reference identifier and Invitation code, apply for visa application in Immiaccount (Official portal)
• Apply for the Global Talent (Subclass 858) Visa for your Australia Permanent Residency Visa

The applications under the Australia Global Talent Visa program will get priority processing of 3 months.

 

How Long Does The Processing Take?

According to the Department's stated processing times as of the time of writing, 75% of visa applications for the Global Talent visa under the:

• Pathway for Distinguished Talent are processed in 18 months; and
• Global Talent route processing times are 65 days (around 2 months).

This is in part because the Global Talent track is a "priority" program and the Distinguished Talent pathway has a limited number of openings.
