Canada has introduced a new option for English language testing for those who want to apply for immigration, study, or work in the country. The Pearson Test of English Core (PTE Core) has been officially acknowledged by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) for a range of programs, including the Student Direct Stream (SDS).

The PTE Core is a computer-based assessment evaluating proficiency in four language skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. It is designed to measure the core English skills of non-native speakers in academic and professional contexts.

Why Choose PTE Core for Your Canada Immigration Needs?

According to Pearson Canada, PTE Core is accepted by more than 90% of Canadian universities and colleges, as well as by many employers and professional bodies. The test is available in more than 250 test centers across 50 countries, including 14 locations in Canada.

PTE Core joins the list of other English language tests that are accepted by IRCC, such as the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). However, IRCC has clarified that the IELTS One Skill Retake tests, which allow candidates to retake only one skill section of the test, are only accepted for the Economic Mobility Pathway Pilot (EMPP), a program that helps foreign workers in the home care sector to become permanent residents. For other programs, such as the Federal Skilled Worker program, candidates must take the full IELTS test.

Register For PTE Core and Prepare For the Test

The recognition of the PTE Core by IRCC is expected to provide more flexibility and convenience for prospective immigrants, students, and workers who need to prove their English language proficiency in Canada.

The following table shows the score comparison between CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks) and PTE Core in Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing skills.
