For skilled professionals intending to move to Ontario via the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), the critical factor is timing. The Employer Job Offer Stream is one of the fastest routes to permanent residency in Canada, but it has rigid deadlines that both employers and workers need to observe strictly.
Let’s go through the whole thing step by step, and what to do along the way.
Step 1: Employees put forward EOI (Expression of Interest)
The moment an employer offers a job, the employee has 30 days to register in the OINP e-Filing Portal. If not, the job offer will no longer be available, and the process will have to start from the very beginning.
Step 2: ITA (Invitation to Apply)
After the registration, the candidates who meet the requirements are put into the waiting list for selection. If chosen, they are granted an ITA (Invitation to Apply) — that is an essential step which gives both the employer and the employee the right to go on with the official application process.
Step 3: Employer’s application
After receiving an ITA, the employer is allowed 14 days to submit the job approval application to OINP. This action confirms that the offer of employment conforms to the criteria set by the program.
Step 4: Employee Application
After the employer’s submission is done, the employee’s application with the payment of the processing fee has to be submitted within 17 days from the date of ITA.
A worker can only apply when the employer has completed the process on their side.
Importance of Deadlines
Deadlines for the OINP procedure are firm and lack all negotiations. Even one missed step means having to start again from the ground up.
Close collaboration between the employer and the employee is a must in order to have each submission timely and correct.
