Items You Must Declare

The following items must be declared on arrival into New Zealand:

• Food Products: Fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, dairy products, honey, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, or pickles-any small quantity may be inspected and destroyed.
• Plant Material: All plants, flowers, seeds, and plant products.
• Animal Products:Raw meat, processed or cooked meat, seafood, and dairy products.
• Used Outdoor Equipment:Used items include camping gear, hiking boots, and other kinds of sports equipment.
• Medicine: Control substances may be contained in either prescription or over-the-counter medicines and must therefore be declared.
• Cash:Carrying NZD 10,000 or more (or equivalent in other currencies) must be declared.

Restricted Items Requiring Special Permission

Some items are not outright prohibited; they require approval prior to being brought into New Zealand or the provision of some kind of official documentation. Among these are:

• Firearms and Ammunition:Must be permitted by the New Zealand Police.
