According to the IRCC, since the middle of July 2025, increased backlogs in processing have been witnessed. There were over 2.2 million active applications as of July 31, of which over 900,000 exceeded normal service standards, a rise from 843,000 applications in June.
Permanent Residence Trends
Minor steady increases in backlog times are seen for permanent residence categories: backlog for Express Entry moved from 20 to 21 percent, whereas PNP applications related to Express Entry went from 48 to 49 percent. Family sponsorship applications, too, experienced a minor increase, with now 15 percent delayed beyond standard processing times.
Temporary Residence Applications
This category of visa applicants is affected more by those of temporary residence applications. Just in June, 64 percent of them were processed on time, but come July, the percentage dropped to 62. Therefore, more than 400,000 temporary-residence applications are pending beyond service standards.
What This Means for Applicants
So, since mid-July, there has been increasing pressure on the Canadian immigration system, which may mean longer waits in coming months. While most cases are still processed within the published timelines, applicants should consider the possibility of induced delays.
At Abhinav Immigration Services, we constantly track these developments to guide our clients through ever-changing timelines with practical advice and application strategies. Also, we make sure every application is correctly prepared, and filed, minimizing delays to allow applicants to be ahead of the existing backlogs.
