In a significant and remarkable development, which seem to have gone down very well with the transgender and transsexual community of Australia and made them a happy lot, Canberra has introduced new rules involving passport. And, these enable the citizens to mention their official sexual category as male, female or indeterminate, though they may not have to go through a surgery to prove that a change in sex has taken place.
Earlier, under the rules, an individual, with a different gender from that of his or her birth, had to go through a re-assignment surgery ahead of his or her change of his or her passport to his or her favored sex even while there was not any undefined alternative.
Meanwhile, a concerned person was quoted as saying that the changes, which become effective at once, implied transgendered or transsexual people would now only require a letter of support from a medical professional to pocket a passport. The involved person added that most individuals believe that they can make a trip freely, minus any fear of any kind of bias.
In a related development, a renowned personality of Australia -- who was born as a woman, but who, is now no more a woman, but a man -- welcomed the step saying the change was very positive. He added that on numerous occasions people have been held up airports by immigration department officials across the world only because their passports did not reflect what they actually happened to be.
