According to a study carried by a leading research organization, migration to the UK will dip strikingly this year. Still, it would be anything but sufficient to cover the goal of the British Prime Minister, David Cameron. The research organization behind the study claimed that the overall immigration - the difference between those turning up in the nation, and those making an exit - would be slashed to 180,000, from a registered 252,000 in 2010.
The research added that the figure though misses out on the British PM's pledge to reduce the overall migration to the ‘10s of 1000s’ during the tenure of the present Parliament. The think-tank behind the research maintained that the best possible hope of fulfilling the vow was for an economic recession to make the nation comparatively less appealing in the eyes of the prospective migrants, and drive back those from the European Union (EU) already present on the British soils.
The report of think-tank envisaged that, boosted by new curbs placed on the overseas students and the deteriorating economic situations, this year there would be a noticeable dip, of as much as 10%, in the number of migrants turning up on the soils of the UK, from outside the Union.
However, it added that additional restrictions placed on qualified immigrants turning up on the shores of the nation may not cut down the overall numbers by over 10,000. Additional curbs put on family migration may also not have much of an impact -- the reason being they could be stalled by legal challenges.
Meanwhile, a concerned person was quoted as saying that even as policy changes will begin to attain major decrease in immigration from outside the Union, it may not be sufficient to help London reach home and duly meet its goal.
However, the Immigration Minister of the UK, Damian Green, contested the claim, even as he stressed that London's objectives may still be suitably met.
