Latest reports suggest that the new immigration policy of Britain severely affects the thriving curry industry of the country, which is believed to be worth more than ?3 billion, and which is mainly dominated by the Indians. Allegedly, the new regulations make it very tough for the expert chefs from India to immigrate to the Island Nation. The new home office rule enables just the uppermost 5% of the chefs from the non-EU countries to migrate to the country.
Meanwhile, a critic was quoted as saying that under the rules for the Tier 2, qualified migrants, chefs from the non-EU nations, who will be given permission to work on British soils, will have to make not less than ?30,000 every year, even as this was very high, and the restriction not in the overall interest of the Indian restaurants spread across the length and breadth of the country.
Courtesy the revised and updated plan -- migrants from the non-European nations, wishing to work as chefs in the UK -- must possess an experience of not less than five years in a similar category. They must also have qualifications equivalent to graduation.
Significantly, a related declaration made by the Immigration Minister of the country, the other day, has also not gone down well with the Indian society. Damian Green's proclamation implies that those chefs from India -- who come under the new and grossly enhanced salary restrictions -- will now have no option except to exit the shores of the nation after five years. These professionals will also not be entitled for the much prized permanent residency of the nation.
It needs to be mentioned that chefs are not the sole persons on the rough end of the stick. Overseas students -- who until now had the choice to stay put on the British soils following their studies and also search for jobs -- will have to pack their bags to return back to their native nations, the reason being the new Tier 4 regulations have closed the doors on this wonderful and much sought after opportunity.
Hence, for Chefs and cooks it makes much sense to migrate to countries like Canada, Australia and New Zealand that put no such restrictions and offer permanent residency options for qualified chefs and cooks.
