Canberra Not To Have Offshore Processing System, Opposition Blamed

In the wake of the non approval of its proposed amendments to the Act involving Migration, inside the Parliament, Canberra has disclosed that from now onwards the processing of refuge applications would be carried out onshore. Applications of people keen in refuge now will be subjected to processing on the shores of the nation apart from communities post the Government failed to get the number of votes required to get its expatriate swap agreement with Malaysia passed.

Canberra accepted that the centres of detention of Australia have all the required facilities even while it disclosed about a system involving community detention that will be additionally developed even while a bridging visa will be offered to those which cannot be processed inside the available network involving detention.

Allotment of this type of visa, usually given to over-stayers visa, will imply that some seekers of refuge would get rights presently unavailable to the immigration detainees, including social protection and the likelihood of getting a job.

Meanwhile, the PM of the country was quoted as saying that she was still devoted to the Malaysian swap agreement even while she called the bringing forward of onshore processing as the sole choice available. She also criticized the Opposition which, she alleged, failed to back the amendments to the Migration Act saying it brought about its defeat.

The PM added that there remained just one reason behind the government's inability to have offshore processing, and it was the opposition's resolve to harm the cause of the country.
